Reporting Information

Hospitals shall submit quarterly reports of patients treated by hospital for trauma (any acute injury which involves a significant risk of death or the precipitation of complications or disabilities.

When Do I Report?

The information must be submitted not later than 60 days after the end of each quarter in a form approved by the Division.

     3.  The quarterly reports must be submitted on or before:

     (a) June 1 for the period beginning on January 1 and ending on March 31.

     (b) September 1 for the period beginning on April 1 and ending on June 30.

     (c) December 1 for the period beginning on July 1 and ending on September 30.

     (d) March 1 for the period beginning on October 1 and ending on December 31.

Why Should I Report?

NRS 450B.900  Penalties for violation.

      1.  Any person who violates any of the provisions of this chapter is guilty of a misdemeanor.

      2.  In addition to any criminal penalty imposed, the Division may impose against any person who violates any of the provisions of this chapter, an administrative penalty in an amount established by the State Board of Health by regulation.

Data is published in the Nevada Trauma Registry Annual Reports. Copies of these reports are available below.

The NTR can provide information on the incidence, and prevalence, morbidity, and mortality of injuries in Nevada. The data can be broken down to a specific county, specific hospital, specific race, or specific age group, for example. These data are available for state, private or federal entities, grant applicants to measure the impact of trauma on Nevada and initiate health education programs that address traumatic injuries.

NRS 450B.238Regulations requiring hospital to record and maintain information.The State Board of Health shall adopt regulations which require each hospital to record and maintain information concerning the treatment of trauma in the hospital. The Board shall consider the guidelines adopted by the American College of Surgeons which concern the information which must be recorded.

NAC 450B.768Submission of quarterly reports by hospital concerning patients treated by hospital; annual reports by Division. 

     1.  Each hospital shall submit to the Division quarterly reports which comply with the criteria prescribed by the Division and which contain at least the information required by the National Trauma Data Standard established by the American College of Surgeons and any other information required by the Division or the State Board of Health.

     2.  The information must be submitted not later than 60 days after the end of each quarter in a form approved by the Division.

     3.  The quarterly reports must be submitted on or before:

     (a) June 1 for the period beginning on January 1 and ending on March 31.

     (b) September 1 for the period beginning on April 1 and ending on June 30.

     (c) December 1 for the period beginning on July 1 and ending on September 30.

     (d) March 1 for the period beginning on October 1 and ending on December 31.

     4.  The Division shall prepare an annual report not later than July 1 for the preceding calendar year summarizing the data submitted by hospitals on patients with traumas.

According to National Trauma Data Bank criteria, for an injury to be reported as a trauma, it must have at least one ICD-10 code from the following ranges: S00-S99 (7th Character Modifier A, B, or C), T07, T14, T20-28 (7th Character Modifier A), T30-32, and T79.A1-T79.A9 (7th Character Modifier A) and the patient must have either:

  • been admitted to a facility;
  • died following treatment or evaluation; or
  • been transferred into or out of a facility.
